As a church, we seek to welcome and foster the creativity of artists for the good of the church and the community. We want to deepen our appreciation for creativity and beauty, because these things reflect the Creator. In our services and in the broader life of our community, we look for opportunities to integrate the arts into our normal rhythms.
Art affords an experience of and engagement with the gospel that doesn’t come from preaching or teaching alone. It communicates something that cannot be distilled into a proposition. It evokes a different kind of understanding, and we want to cultivate that.
One way we are seeking to celebrate and grow in appreciation for the arts and artists is through our Living Room Culture events. Living Room Culture is an opportunity to explore, appreciate, and interact with the arts in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. They also serve as a great way to be hospitable to our neighbors and invite others into the life of Apostles Uptown. At these events, we highlight the work of artists (in our immediate community and beyond), and seek to enjoy, learn from, and uphold their work.
